The woman in the rose patterned dress stumbles out of the tree line, a headless teddy bear in her hand. She walks toward the lake and kneels down, watching the water looking angry.
"No, no this isn't right. Something is missing." She looks at the bear and then at her surroundings. "Been here before, but when?" She shakes her head in frustration. "There is the water, but there is no mist. Where is the mist? Why can't I fly anymore?" She sets the bear down on the ground and, with her right hand begins pushing at the skin on her left hand looking frustrated and confused.

He had brought Alayna to what he knew would make her happy and turned her loose for a time. He stopped when he saw the woman talking in the rose patterned dress, with the headless teddy bear talking to herself and raised an eyebrow. "Pardon me, but are you lost?" He took a few more cautious steps towards her.

There is a look of wild desperation in her eyes but her voice is solid and steady. "Truly sir, not all who wander are lost yet not all who are lost wander. I am only as lost as I need to be to find what I seek. These things simply take time." She stops and tilts her head, straightening the bear's darkly matted fur with her fingers. "Who are you?"

"My name is Christian, I was merely wandering about with a friend. What are you seeking then?" His perfect british accent and handsome good looks may not help him in this particular situation.

For one who travels with a friend you seem awfully alone..." She smiles slowly. "Do you always come to the aid of damsels in distress? I have things to say I just wonder if you are the one to say them too. Do you have references?" She laughs lightly, gripping the bear tighter. In the dark it is difficult to tell if the bear is covered in dried blood or dried mud. The woman's long dark hair struggles to free itself from the bun she has wrapped it in as she gets to her feet and straightens her dress.

I didn't catch your name madam?" He shoved his hands into his pockets, the normally charming, calm Christian was suddenly nervous.

I want to know your references first. I have business in this city. I was called here from beyond the mist. Do you know Stan?" She stands patiently watching as if this were the most normal conversation in the world. She continues to preen the headless bear.

He is a nice gentleman at times. Do you know him?" He gripped the phone in his pocket and took a couple of steps backwards away from the woman with the headless teddy bear.

Would you be so kind as to make sure that he gets this bear? Tell him that Maddalena asked you to give it to him. And for heaven's sake, quit trying to escape. There is nothing to fear from me." She shakes her head slowly and then looks up again. "It is most important that this bear gets to him and I am unable to give it to him personally."
