Emma sighs and sits back against the beautiful red seating. "Well, it wasn't that they weren't friends... honestly they were, but your family and the Tower don't mesh well. Cahill was in command here in the city and that means he's got a lot of folks breathing down his neck. Hell, if Cross thinks things are chaos now... wait until some one from Europe calls him up and starts making demands and telling him how to do stuff." The corner of Emma's lip will turn upwards for a second.
"Buuuut... Cahill and Cici had to play the roles they were dealt I suppose. Rather like Constantino and I, publically we can be friendly but being friends would be unacceptable. I would lose credibility and Constantino would be suspected of doing something unspeakable to me to make me loose my good judgement. On the flip side of that is also the fact that having too close of friends in the Tower tends to make people on both sides ask questions... things like: how near are we to violating the agreements set down between our two groups in the past. A friendship, a true friendship between someone of the Tower and your family is a liability for both sides and I think Cici and Cahill knew that. Better to play up disliking one another and have a bit of friendly competition rather than have people questioning them at every turn."
"The trick seems to be to establish a role for yourself, if you don't mind the advice?" Emma pauses and waits to see if Renata is okay with advice and assuming she is, she continues. "Cici provided the service of gambling and loans to many kindred and he provided access to hard to find items too. His ties to the underworld made him invaluable to all of us and because of that fact no one REALLY wanted him out of the city. I think you and Constantino need to build yourselves up to be something more than the resident ghost-whisperers ... the sooner people owe you for more than just talking to the dead... the sooner they'll quit identifying you with a power they don't know anything about and can't control." She sips her drink again.
"Kindred fear something and they fight it... you got an advantage though, you're quiet... no one knows you... no one knows your powers... you could let them get to know the YOU that you want them to see long before they pass judgement on how scared of you they think they need to be. AND, with a pretty face like yours, that becomes infinately easier since so many around here think with their long-dead and useless body parts." Emma will laugh.
